Quiet
Corey was a silent child from the beginning. He didn’t say his first word until he was a year and a half old, and he just seemed to keep going at that rate for the rest of his life. He was always encouraged (whether more by his parents’ soft words, or the mockeries of the bullies, he doesn’t know) to keep his opinions and ideas to himself, and he was practically made to listen.
Innocent
In short, if Corey hadn’t been sent to Winterthorne, he probably never would have learned that bad things exist. His parents sheltered him quite well, keeping him far away from anyone or anything that had to do with sex, drugs, alcohol, cussing, or the like. Of course, one can only protect their child so much, and so going to public school “educated” him more than his parents ever would. But he still stood under their sheltered wing, ignoring what the older and “wiser” kids talked about. The only thing he picked up from his school was cursing, and he wouldn’t dare curse in front of his parents.
Oblivious
Hate to say it, but Corey is quite an ignorant child. Not in an arrogant, teenage fashion, but in a childish, “how can Splenda taste like sugar but not be sugar?” way. His parents never took it upon themselves to let him know that there is more to life than studying and playing chess. And he never took it upon himself to ask.
Timid
Sheltered or not, Corey is quite a shy child. He has always been big on not speaking unless spoken to, not looking someone in the eye unless you are challenging them, and keeping your hands to yourself. Something as simple as a hug sends shivers up his spine. He is used to physical contact from his parents, of course, but he finds a public display of affection from others intimidating and rather shocking.
Sweet
Just because he isn’t the most noble or outgoing man in the world doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his strong points. When asked, Corey often says he only has 29 mean bones in his body. Is fourth rib, his right knee, and his entire left fist.
Defensive
As mentioned before, Corey says he only has 29 mean bones in his body. The ones you should be afraid of is his left fist. I think informing you that he has broken his left hand four times would be enough of an explanation, but I am going to go into detail just to make this longer. Whenever Corey is pushed over the edge (which is rather hard to do, I might add), he really gets pushed over the edge. He is usually only willing to take a single swing at his enemy, but that’s all it ever takes to knock them out for a good two days. Sure, he has had several black eyes in the past from being ganged up on, but everyone finds it rather daunting, and quite an eye opener, to see that they had gone so far as to make the quietest kid in school lash out. So beware, my friends. And might I add, if you want to keep your face intact, don’t mock Corey’s middle name.
Sporty
Surprisingly enough, Corey is rather gifted when it comes to sports. His lean body is almost completely muscle, with only a 2.2 body fat ratio. His favorite sport to play is lacrosse, though he is extremely good at playing tennis, as well as discus. And you should see him swim. One of the few things he isn’t afraid to do in front of a crowd is play sports. Oftentimes, he will silently and swiftly beat the most popular and sport-obsessed boys in school, and will leave silently and swiftly, only giving people time to stare at his back in shock.
Spongy…?
For lack of a better word, Corey is rather “spongy”. He observes, absorbs, and reflects almost everything he sees in the people around him. Evils aside, it is not uncommon for him to mimic a person’s personality, if he hangs out with them long enough. Person by person, he adds their personalities onto the next, until he has made his own little being. Of course, with moving to Winterthorne, his old “personality” was completely wiped out, and now he has to start anew.

history ,
I think it’s safe to assume you’ve already guessed that Corey had…interesting…parents. But, of course, I’m going to go into more detail, just to bore the hell out of you.
Corey was born in the States, Michigan, if you want specifics. He was an only child for 15 years, and quiet from the start. At first, everything went smoothly. He progressed at a normal rate, hated baths, and loved cheerios. But after his first birthday, his parents began to worry. You see, he hadn’t spoken a single word. He hadn’t even seemed to really try. So, concerned, the young couple took him to his pediatrician. Of course the doctor said everything was fine. He was just learning a bit slowly. Nothing to worry about. But, as all young people do, the parents didn’t listen. Instead, they worried and fretted over their little boy. They spoke to him like they would a parrot, until, when he was a year and a half old, he said his first word. “Okay”. A very submissive word, it was. And so became his personality.
When Corey was five, his parents sent him to kindergarten. They held him back for a year, worrying that he hadn’t quite caught up with his peers when he was, in fact, rather ahead of them. Their over-protectiveness and worry over their son aside, Corey’s parents were good parents. They fed him, washed him, played with him, and made him watch educational television. But not too educational.
Corey was twelve, the real trouble began. You see, when he was twelve, he entered sixth grade. His parents had wanted to send him to a private academy, one where cussing and talk of inappropriate behavior and habits was severely punished. But of course the couple couldn’t afford such a school on their budget, and they were forced to send their son to public school. To keep the evil exposure to a minimum, Corey was refused to communicate with anyone after school. Instead, he was made to learn chess with his father, read non-fiction and clean fiction books, and watch educational shows on the television.
The kids at school picked on him, of course. They mocked his anti-social behavior, which wasn’t his fault. It had simply been thrust upon him since birth. They criticized his parents. But who can choose their parents? They made fun of every piece of dirt they could scrounge up on this scrawny, mute little kid. But of course none of said dirt was really his own fault.
One day, in seventh grade, a tough kid found out Corey’s middle name. In front of the school, during lunch of course, he said it out loud and taunted poor Corey. Nothing had ever made this kid do more than cry in the past, so when Corey’s eyes almost literally turned red, everyone was shocked. The school was stunned to absolute silence when not only did Corey look someone in the eye, he raised his fist, and swung. Needless to say, the bully was unconscious for several hours.
In eighth grade, the same sort of situation occurred, but it was much more severe. A bully had once again found out about Corey’s middle name, and, being as out of the loop as he was, never heard what Corey did to the last kid. So, the bully picked on him until his victim snapped. Corey swung, and the bully was down for the count. For three days. That same day, a friend of the bully decided to teach Corey a lesson. No punk 8th grader was going to put his friend into a coma without a good battle scar. So, he got a few of his buddies to pin Corey down while he carved his first initial (an “H”) onto the kid’s left shoulder.
As we all know, bullies never learn. Twice in ninth grade the same thing happened, but with less drastic results. Finally, concerned for their little boy’s well being, Corey’s parents moved him out of that horrid school. They home schooled him for one full year before hearing about Winterthorne. Knowing of his special abilities (as they had some of their own), and knowing he needed a safe environment away from the reputation he had made for himself, they shipped him off to Winterthorne without looking deeply into the type of kids that went to the school. Their biggest mistake.
